Ms. Alarie (Louis-Hébert), seconded by Ms. Gagnon (Québec), moved, -- That this House urge the government to demonstrate openness with regard to genetically modified organisms, starting by making it mandatory to label genetically modified foods or foods containing genetically modified ingredients, in order to enable Canadians to make informed choices about the foods they eat.

Mrs. Girard-Bujold (Jonquière), seconded by Mr. Laurin (Joliette), moved the following amendment, -- That the motion be amended by adding, in the French version, after the word ``denrées'' the following:

``alimentaires''.

Mr. Vellacott (Wanuskewin), seconded by Mr. Wappel (Scarborough Southwest), moved, -- That, in the opinion of this House, the government should defend the constitutionality of Section 43 of the Criminal Code in the Courts and, if necessary, should take legislative action to reinstate Section 43 in the event that it is struck down, including invoking the notwithstanding clause of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Section 33 of the Constitution Act, 1982).
