Meeting No. 23

Monday, December 13, 1999

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 3:14 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Yvan Bernier, John Cummins, Claude Drouin, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Charlie Power, Carmen Provenzano.

Acting Member(s) present: Steve Mahoney for Bill Matthews; Hec Clouthier for Lou Sekora; Marcel Proulx for Paul Steckle.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study on the implications of the September 17th, 1999 Supreme Court decision on R. v. Marshall on the Management of fisheries in the Atlantic Region.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 108(1)(a), the Committee authorizes the printing opinions as an appendix to this report immediately after the signature of the Chair, that the dissenting opinions be limited to not more than 3 pages, and that the dissenting opinions be sent to the Clerk of the Committee electronically, in a bilingual format and the font print be no. 10, on/before Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at 10:00 a.m.

At 4:24 o'clock p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:17 o'clock p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 6:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
