Sports-Related Concussions in Canada

Last meeting: Wednesday, May 15, 2019

On Thursday, October 4, 2018, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health adopted a motion to establish the Subcommittee on Sports-Related Concussions in Canada. The Health Committee issued this press release to announce this study.

The Subcommittee will develop recommendations on how to better protect athletes from concussions and make sport safer for youth in Canada. As part of its study, the Subcommittee is looking to hear from a broad range of stakeholders, including amateur and professional athletes, families, national sports organizations, and multi-sport organizations, athletes and coaching organizations, researchers and members of the medical community.

Interested Canadians are invited to submit a request to appear before the Subcommittee and/or to submit a brief (maximum of 2,500 words) summarizing their comments and recommendations. Briefs are translated by the House of Commons, distributed to the Subcommittee members and published on the Subcommittee’s website.

The Subcommittee is scheduled to table its findings and recommendations with the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health by June 2019. It will then be up to the Standing Committee on Health to follow up on this report.
