Bill C-238, An Act respecting the development of a national strategy for the safe disposal of lamps containing mercury
In accordance with its Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 19, 2016, your Committee has considered Bill C-238, An Act respecting the development of a national strategy for the safe disposal of lamps containing mercury, and agreed on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 to report it with the following amendments

Title

That Bill C-238 be amended by replacing the long title on page 1 with the following:

“An Act respecting the development of a national strategy for the safe and environmentally sound disposal of lamps containing mercury”

Short Title

That Bill C-238, in the short title, be amended by replacing line 5 on page 1 with the following:

Safe and Environmentally Sound Disposal of Lamps Containing Mercury Act.‍”

Clause 2

That Bill C-238, in Clause 2, be amended by replacing lines 8 to 18 on page 1 with the following:

“ments and with representatives of other interested governments in Canada that are responsible for the environment, and in consultation with all interested persons or organizations that he or she considers appropriate, must develop a national strategy for the safe and environmentally sound disposal of lamps containing mercury. The strategy may include

(a) the identification of practices for the safe and environmentally sound disposal of those lamps;

(b) the establishment of guidelines for facilities where activities involved in the safe and environmentally sound disposal of those lamps are carried out; and

(c) the development of a plan to promote public awareness of the importance of those lamps being disposed of safely and in an environmentally sound manner.‍”

Your Committee has ordered a reprint of Bill C-238, as amended, as a working copy for the use of the House of Commons at the report stage.
A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings (Meeting No. 35) is tabled.
