JUST Committee Report

In accordance with its Order of Reference of Wednesday, February 6, 2019, your Committee has considered Bill C-417, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (disclosure of information by jurors), and agreed on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, to report it with the following amendments:

Clause 1

That Bill C-417, in Clause 1, be amended by replacing, in the English version, lines 19 and 20 on page 1 with the following:

“(c) any medical or psychiatric treatment or any therapy or counselling that a person referred to in subsection (1)”

That Bill C-417, in Clause 1, be amended by adding after line 25 on page 1 the following:

“(3) For the purpose of paragraph (2)(c), the health care professional that provides medical or psychiatric treatment or therapy or counselling must be entitled to do so under the laws of a province.”

New Clause 2

That Bill C-417 be amended by adding after line 25 on page 1 the following:

“Coming into Force

2 This Act comes into force on the 90th day after the day on which it receives royal assent.”

Your Committee has ordered a reprint of Bill C-417, as amended, as a working copy for the use of the House of Commons at the report stage.
A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings (Meeting No. 134) is tabled.
