Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her excellent question.
For me, being here in the House is certainly not about opposing trade or free trade. Quite the opposite. I wish I too could vote in favour of the motion.
The motion is unacceptable to me because of factors vital to industrial sectors in Quebec and its regions, such as aluminum and softwood lumber. Still, there are some positives, such as preserving Quebec's culture. I recognize those efforts.
When I weigh the pros and the cons, however, and I see that $6 billion worth of investment in one industry is at stake, there is no way I can stand up in the House and agree to hand the government a blank cheque.

Mon but, par ma présence à la Chambre, n'est évidemment pas de m'opposer au commerce ni au libre-échange, bien au contraire. J'aimerais pouvoir voter en faveur de la motion, moi aussi.
À mon avis, ce qui rend la motion inacceptable, c'est qu'il y a des éléments qui sont essentiels aux industries du Québec et de ses régions, particulièrement celles de l'aluminium et du bois d'œuvre. Néanmoins, il y a des éléments qui sont intéressants, comme le fait que l'on préserve la culture du Québec. Je vois ces efforts.
Or, dans l'ensemble, quand on pèse le pour et le contre, avec une industrie où 6 milliards d'investissements sont menacés, je ne peux forcément pas me lever à la Chambre pour dire que nous allons donner un chèque en blanc au gouvernement.
