Mr. Speaker, I rise to present two petitions today. The first petition is from residents of the Kipawa Lake area, who are very concerned by a proposal to mine rare earths by Matamec Explorations Inc.
The petitioners' view is that the Kipawa rare earths project threatens the unique ecological, cultural, and historical value of the Kipawa Lake system. They hope the House will support their efforts to protect the Kipawa Lake region.

Mr. Speaker, it is an honour to rise today to present two petitions.
The first is from residents of Kipawa, Quebec, who are very concerned about the Lake Kipawa system. The ecosystem there is threatened by a rare earth project, and petitions continue to come in asking the federal government to work to protect this ecosystem from the proposed Matamec Explorations Inc. mine.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to present three petitions.
The first petition is a very specific one relating to the Kipawa lakes area, which is a unique ecological, cultural, and historical area. The petitioners see it as an area that is being threatened by Matamec Explorations Inc., which proposes to mine rare earths. Rare earths are known to have a number of contaminants associated with their mining, which would be inappropriate for the Kipawa lakes area.

Mr. Speaker, the second petition is primarily from residents in and around the area of Temiscaming near Lake Kipawa.
The petitioners call upon the present government to protect the unique ecological and cultural historic values of the Kipawa lakes and to protect them from the proposed rare earth mining of Matamec Explorations.
