Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life that was held in my riding over the weekend. This was the 13th year it has been held in Cape Breton.
Relay for Life brings Canadians together from across this great country to join in the fight against cancer. It is an opportunity for communities to celebrate survivors and remember loved ones lost to the disease, all while raising funds. The relay is the largest cancer fundraiser in Canada with more than 500 communities taking part each year. In Sydney, Saturday night, I participated with 350 participants, 100 volunteers and 95 survivors, all helping raise $60,000. Throughout Cape Breton over the last week, there were four fundraisers raising $170,000.
It was great to be joined Saturday night by former MLA Gordie Gosse who has been courageously battling cancer over the last year.
Congratulations to all volunteers and all those who came out to show their support. I invite everyone in this House to visit the site cancer.ca to find a relay happening in their area and join the fight against this illness that affects all of us.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to celebrate the 21st annual Leah Dugas Memorial Kids Against Cancer Hockey Tournament, which took place at the Sydney Mines community centre.
This event was renamed in honour of Leah Dugas, who lost her battle to cancer when she was only nine years old. Leah had been involved in the hockey tournament and had served as the official princess in 2005.
This year, 12 teams took part to raise money for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital's pediatrics fund. Over $60,000 has been raised for cancer research and programs over the last 20 years.
This event could not happen without the support of Leah's family, the many who provide the food, the Sydney Mines Forum, the Northside District Minor Hockey Association, the Sydney Mines and District Community Centre, and many contributors.
This tournament serves as a tribute to Leah's life and also helps families dealing with cancer. I would ask all members to recognize the Leah Dugas hockey tournament to fight cancer.

Mr. Speaker, as the member of Parliament for South Shore—St. Margaret's, I rise to recognize the new and inspiring partnership between organizer Al Sullivan's David Atkinson Memorial Bonspiel for Cancer and the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore.
Together, the memorial bonspiel and the foundation will raise funds dedicated exclusively to helping South Shore cancer patients. I am proud to stand in the House to recognize them today.
I would also like to acknowledge the South Shore's own Admiral Desmond Piers Naval Association. The association meets on a monthly basis as a place for people who have served at sea. It is 130 members strong and growing. Whether their legacy was with the navy, the merchant marines, the Canadian Coast Guard or the RCMP's marine division, members of the Admiral Desmond Piers Naval Association are all united by their love of the sea, their honourable service and, as any of them would put it, the salt water in their veins.
These Nova Scotians and the organizations they represent honour both their communities and all of Canada.

Mr. Speaker,
Two men in the ring, 800 in the stands; One wrote a cheque with his mouth, he couldn't cash with his hands. The Tory Nation was cocky, they came out in full force; But like the F-35 contract, they had backed the wrong horse.Liberals must be defeated, that's known Tory credo; They had nothing to hide, you could tell by the Speedo.Brazeau came out hard and brought the Tories to their feet; But in less than a minute, he looked pretty well beat. The red onslaught of punches could not be contained;Like those Tory attack ads, stinging and sustained. The bombs came from everywhere, our boy pummelled and pounded; It looked like the senator thought he was surrounded. He was dazed and confused, the ref twice stopped the fight; He got hit with so many lefts, he was begging for a right. In less than six minutes it was all over and done;A TKO victory, the good guys had won.The Tories were devastated by this jaw-dropping blow;Ezra's microphone went silent, his mouth stuffed with crow. But the Tories aren't finished, they'll want a rematch I'm betting; They'll find someone tougher, maybe Marjory LeBreton.

Mr. Speaker, the minister, despite being asked multiple times, has still not said what he considers to be a core program, so perhaps the Minister of Health would like to answer a question because these programs are not only an environmental concern and surely the Minister of Health knows that the UV index created by Canada has lowered skin cancer rates and saved lives.
For the Minister of Health, will she have the courage to stand up for the health of Canadians?
