Mr. Speaker, my question is for the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs.
Kivalliq Hall was a boarding school in my home town of Rankin Inlet. The Nunavut Court of Justice has recently ruled that Kivalliq Hall met the requirements to be considered a residential school. The federal government is now appealing this court decision. I am confused, and so are those affected, because the minister has recently stated, “the best way to address outstanding issues and achieve through negotiation and dialogue rather than litigation.”
Why is the federal government taking this back to court?
