Mr. Speaker, last week, it was the victims' surcharge—the law where, if people attempted to murder someone, they had to pay $200 to victims.
Now, this week, the Liberals have a problem with mandatory sentences. Where are they going to start? Are they going to start with the most serious crime? For decades, people who committed premeditated murder got a life sentence, with no chance of parole for 25 years.
Is this one of the areas that the Liberals have a problem with? We want to know.
Monsieur le Président, la semaine dernière, c'était la surcharge compensatoire, la loi selon laquelle les individus qui ont tenté d'assassiner quelqu'un doivent payer 200 $ aux victimes.
Voilà que, cette semaine, les libéraux remettent en question les peines obligatoires. Par quoi vont-ils commencer? Les crimes les plus graves? Pendant des décennies, les individus qui commettaient un meurtre prémédité étaient condamnés à la prison à vie, sans possibilité de libération conditionnelle avant 25 ans.
Les libéraux remettent-ils également cela en question? Nous aimerions bien le savoir.
