Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for her question.
However, I somewhat disagree with the premise of it. She said that the motion has to do with language and not culture. Honestly, since I became the Minister of Canadian Heritage, I have spoken to thousands of people across the country, and language is culture and culture is language. The two cannot be separated.
As members heard from the Minister of Official Languages, we support the French fact in Quebec and want to support it even further. We recognize that French is at risk across the country, which is why the bill to modernize the Official Languages Act is so important, so that the federal government, in partnership with other governments and other organizations in Canada, can work to strengthen the French fact in Quebec and across the country.
Monsieur le Président, je remercie mon honorable collègue de sa question.
Par contre, je suis un peu en désaccord sur la prémisse de sa question. Elle dit que la motion porte sur la langue et non sur la culture. Honnêtement, depuis que je suis ministre du Patrimoine canadien, j'ai parlé à des milliers de personnes d'un bout à l'autre du pays, et la langue, c'est la culture, et la culture, c'est la langue. On ne peut pas séparer ces deux éléments.
Comme nous l'avons entendu de la ministre responsable des Langues officielles, nous soutenons et nous voulons soutenir encore plus le fait français au Québec. Partout au pays, nous reconnaissons que le français est menacé, d'où l'importance du projet de loi de modernisation de la Loi sur les langues officielles pour que le gouvernement fédéral, en partenariat avec d'autres gouvernements et d'autres organisations au pays, puisse travailler à renforcer le fait français au Québec et partout au pays.
