e-5272 (Citizenship and immigration)

Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Iranian nationals applying for permanent residency in Canada face extended security checks due to concerns regarding the Islamic regime’s activities, creating significant mental and financial strain, heightened stress, and prolonged uncertainty for applicants;
  • Many Iranian applicants experience delays well beyond the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada standard timelines, causing extended hardship and stress;
  • These delays hinder Iranian nationals’ integration and participation in Canadian society, limiting access to essential services and affecting their stability and long-term planning; and
  • The Islamic regime in Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism, engages in transnational repression, and targets dissidents abroad. Its actions obstruct the rights of those seeking refuge in Canada and other Western democracies, using repression to maintain control beyond its borders.
We, the undersigned, Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Ensure fair and timely processing of permanent residency applications for Iranian nationals, addressing the extended delays experienced by many applicants while upholding Canada’s security standards;
2. Provide transparent communication including regular updates on an application status, including delays, with clear deadlines for security checks; and
3. Pass Bill C-350 into law, ensuring persons forced to do mandatory military service are not unfairly targeted, except for those having committed illegal, criminal and unethical acts.
