Petition to the Government of Canada
- Canadian fans are facing outrageous resale concert ticket prices due to a lack of protections for consumers;
- In August 2024, one resale site had Toronto tickets for Taylor Swift listed for over $13,000 each marked as a “Great Deal”;
- In Portugal and Denmark, tickets cannot be resold for more than their original price;
- In Germany, a clause can be added in the ticket’s terms and conditions prohibiting resale above 25% of face value;
- In France, unauthorized ticket resale can carry fines of up to €30,000;
- The Fans First Act, pending in the U.S., would prevent speculative ticket sales when a seller doesn’t have a ticket, require 'all-in' pricing, outlaw deceptive websites, and strengthen enforcement of penalties;
- The Canadian government has a role in enforcing protections against deceptive marketing practices, including hidden fees; and
- In Budget 2024, the government committed to cracking down on “fraudulent resellers and reseller practices which unfairly drive-up prices, such as using bot technology.”
