Petition to Colin Carrie, Member of Parliament for Oshawa

Whereas:
  • Many Haitian families, including members of Haitians of Toronto, submitted their immigration applications in compliance with IRCC guidelines under a first-come, first-serve program;
  • Numerous applications were flagged for unnecessary ID resubmissions despite all required documents being submitted correctly, indicating a systemic error in IRCC’s processing;
  • Applicants affected by these delays have faced a lack of communication or resolution, causing emotional and financial stress for families and compromising the integrity of the immigration process;
We, the undersigned, Haitian Community, call upon the House of Commons to, and We, Haitians of Toronto, respectfully petition the House of Commons to address the processing delays and systemic errors affecting Haitian families’ applications under the Permanent Residence Pathway for Colombian, Haitian, and Venezuelan Nationals, launched in November 2023.
We request that the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) take immediate steps to:
Acknowledge and Correct System Errors: Officially recognize the processing errors that triggered unnecessary document requests, delaying compliant applications.
Prioritize Delayed Applications: Restore fairness to the first-come, first-serve program by prioritizing improperly flagged applications.
Enhance Transparency and Communication: Provide regular updates to applicants about their application status and expected timelines.
Implement Safeguards for Future Programs: Improve processing protocols to prevent similar errors in future immigration programs, ensuring fair treatment of all applicants.
These delays cause significant distress to families who trusted this pathway. We urge the House of Commons to support our call for accountability and action for timely reunification of families.
