Petition to the Government of Canada
- In June 2019, relations broke down between Canada and Venezuela. This resulted in Venezuela closing its consulates in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, effectively ending direct diplomatic functions as well as services in Canada;
- Venezuela is currently facing a series institutional breakdown as a result of the Maduro regime. This leaves many Venezuelans abroad, including legal permanent residents of Canada, are unable to secure or renew their Venezuelan passports;
- Venezuelan permanent residents in Canada and their families contribute to our economy and society;
- Extending support to Venezuelan expatriates with permanent resident status in Canada is in the national interest of Canada to ensure they can access essential services and fulfill their legal obligations to Canada; and
- The lack of a valid document for international travel severely limits the ability of expatriate Venezuelans in Canada especially for the purpose of working, earning an income and paying Canadian taxes.
