Petition to the House of Commons
- Canada’s mental health crisis is one of the most pressing healthcare issues of the twenty-first century;
- Based on data from 2022, more than 5 million Canadians aged 15 and older met the diagnostic criteria for a mood, anxiety, or substance use disorder in the previous year;
- More than 1 in 3 Canadians who met the diagnostic criteria for a mood, anxiety, or substance use disorder in the past year reported their needs for mental health care services were not met or only partially met;
- The prevalence of mood and anxiety disorders has increased significantly since 2012; and
- The lack of a national framework for mental health care has left Canada ill-equipped to provide the necessary support to Canadians in an equitable way.
