Petition to the Government of Canada
- In an emergency, it is critical that Canadians have easy access to emergency services such as 9-1-1;
- Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) technologies allow people to send text, picture, and video messages to 9-1-1 operators, and allow operators to transfer calls to other regions;
- Presently, the Province of Nova Scotia, the City of Ottawa, the City of Waterloo, and the City of Calgary are the few locations in Canada that have the capabilities of transferring 9-1-1 calls elsewhere; and
- The CRTC aims to have call transferring in place nationwide in March 2025, and the ability to text 9-1-1 implemented across Canada in 2026.
