Petition to the House of Commons

We, the undersigned citizens and residents of Canada, draw the attention of the House of Commons to the following:

Whereas:

  • The NDP-Liberal government has claimed to support Ukraine, it has been extremely slow to deliver concrete military assistance to the front line;
  • The government has previously rejected Conservative proposals that would have expedited the delivery of urgently needed military equipment to Ukraine.

Therefore, we, the undersigned citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:

  • Immediately follow through on long-delayed promises regarding military support for Ukraine;
  • Send any surplus military equipment to Ukraine on an urgent basis; and
  • Support the passage of the Boosting Ukraine's Munitions Supply Act.

Response by the Minister of National Defence

Signed by (Minister or Parliamentary Secretary): Marie-France Lalonde

The Government of Canada remains committed to Ukraine and is continually evaluating options to provide Ukraine with the comprehensive military assistance needed to defend its sovereignty and security.

Since February 2022, Canada has committed more than $4.5 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, including the $500 million in military assistance announced by the Prime Minister at the NATO Summit in July 2024. Donations to date include armoured vehicles, and other specialized pieces of military equipment. Each of these donations have been selected based on close coordination with our partners in the in the International Donor Coordination Centre, through the Ukraine Defence Coordination Group, the Ukrainian government and Ukrainian Armed Forces military.

The Canadian Armed Forces is also assisting with the delivery of aid within Europe and has transported over 22 million pounds of military donations on behalf of our allies and partners.

Further, Canada has allocated up to $359 million to enhance F-16 pilot training through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) Air Force Capability Coalition. It has also signed the Ukraine Compact, a joint statement with G7 countries and partners, that reconfirms enduring support for Ukraine’s self-defence and deterrence capabilities.

Finally, Canada will donate over 80,000 CRV-7 rocket motors and 1,280 warheads from CAF inventory to Ukraine.  An initial tranche of over 2000 CRV7 rocket motors was delivered in September 2024. National Defence will also donate 29 Canadian manufactured Nanuk Remote Weapons System from surplus CAF inventory and will send more than 130,000 rounds of surplus small arms ammunition to Ukraine.

Canada will continue to work closely with its Partners and Allies to provide Ukraine with the military assistance they need. The Minister of National Defence remains in close contact with Ukraine’s Minister of Defence to discuss the country’s most pressing security needs and how Canada can best continue to help.
