M-6 Global warming

43rd Parliament, 1st Session

Motion Text

That, in the opinion of the House, the government should: (a) recognize that there are only a dozen years of global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5 °C, beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people; (b) recognize that limiting global warming to a maximum of 1.5 °C requires rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes across Canada; and (c) ensure that Canada’s laws are in harmony with the recommendations outlined in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) "Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 °C, an IPCC special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission pathways, in the context of strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change, sustainable development, and efforts to eradicate poverty".
