Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the committee proceeded to a briefing with the Information Commissioner of Canada.

Caroline Maynard made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:27 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 12:32 p.m., the meeting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $500, for the briefing with the Information Commissioner of Canada, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $500, for the briefing with the interim Parliamentary Budget Officer on his recent report: Budget 2025 Federal Spending to Support $1 Trillion in Total Investment, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $6,000, for the study of subject matter of Clauses 195 to 199 (Division 2), Clauses 203 to 209 (Division 5), Clauses 210 to 216 (Division 6), Clauses 217 to 222 (Division 7), and Clause 592 (Division 40) of Bill C-15, An Act to Implement Certain Provisions of the Budget Tabled in Parliament on November 4, 2025, be adopted.

It was agreed, — With regard to the study on the subject matter of Bill C-15:

(a) that, at the conclusion of this study, the committee report its observations and recommendations—both joint and/or those of the various political parties—in a letter to the Standing Committee on Finance;

(b) that, notwithstanding the decision taken on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the committee forgo holding a meeting on the ethical, accountability, and transparency implications of Division 5 of Part 5 of the bill, and that it communicate this decision to the Standing Committee on Finance when corresponding with it in accordance with (a); and

(c) that the analysts be instructed to prepare this letter, provided that the Chair informs the committee on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, of the deadline for parties to submit their recommendations following the hearing of all witnesses, with the exception of Canada Post.
