Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, September 15, 2025, the committee resumed its study of section 810 of the Criminal Code and women's safety.

The committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a draft report.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study on the abuse and financial vulnerability of senior women, including federal income supports, scams targeting seniors, and federally funded measures that support safe and secure living conditions for seniors; that the committee hold at least four meetings on this study and report its findings and recommendations to the House; and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the report.

It was agreed, — That, given that human trafficking in Canada continues to be a problem disproportionately affecting women and girls, the committee undertake a study of no less than four meetings to examine the increase in human trafficking of women and girls for sexual exploitation, prevention measures, tools and resources available to law enforcement, supports for survivors, and the effectiveness of awareness campaigns, education programs and community partnerships and that the following witnesses be invited to appear for no less than one hour each:

  1. Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Public Safety
  2. Rechie Valdez, Minister for Women and Gender Equality
  3. Ruby Sahota, Secretary of State (Combatting Crime)

And that the committee also receive evidence from other witnesses deemed appropriate by the committee; at the conclusion of the study, the committee prepare a comprehensive report with their findings and recommendations, and request a government response, pursuant to Standing Order 109.

At 5:25 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 5:37 p.m., the meeting resumed.

At 6:08 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
