Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Thursday, February 12, 2026, the committee resumed its study of the security situation in the Balkans.

Adriatik Kryeziu made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:35 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 4:42 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Muhamet Brajshori, Gëzim Visoka and Jos Boonstra made statements and answered questions.

Committee Business
The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget of the Subcommittee on International Human Rights in the amount of $8,600, for the briefing on the situation of Tibetan children placed in schools administered by the People's Republic of China, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget of the Subcommittee on International Human Rights in the amount of $10,650, for the briefing on human rights in the Caribbean region, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the committee undertake a study of the Main Estimates 2026–27 and Supplementary Estimates (A) 2026–27 referred to the committee, and that the Minister of Foreign Affairs be invited to appear before the committee on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in relation to these estimates.

Current Situation for Democracy and Human Rights Defenders Around the World
Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development on Monday, January 26, 2026, the committee commenced its study of the current situation for democracy and human rights defenders around the world.

It was agreed, — That the draft report be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Standing with Democracy and Human Rights Defenders: Strengthening Support at a Crucial Time".

It was agreed, — That the Chair, clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the report.

ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

At 5:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
