The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Motion

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion moved by John Oliver on Monday, April 16, 2018, which read as follows:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on the barriers to access to treatment and drugs for Canadians affected by rare diseases and disorders in order to develop recommendations on actions that the federal government can take, in partnership with the provinces and territories, to remove these barriers; that the Committee report its findings and recommendations to the House no later than December 31, 2018; and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

The debate continued.

Amendment

Ben Lobb moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the word “disorders” the following: “including the Special Access Program,”.

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Ben Lobb and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 9; NAYS: 0.

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion, as amended :

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 9; NAYS: 0.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, February 14, 2018, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill S-228, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act (prohibiting food and beverage marketing directed at children).

David Hammond, by videoconference from Waterloo, Ontario, Dr. Robert Strang, by videoconference from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Nancy Greene Raine and Monique Potvin Kent made statements and answered questions.

At 5:31 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

At 5:42 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
