The Chair presented the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:
Your Subcommittee met on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:
That the Business of the Committee be conducted as follows:
1. That a Report be adopted and presented to the House, asking for an extension of 30 sitting days, to consider Bill C-343, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code and the Employment Insurance Act (family leave).
2. That Bill C-343, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code and the Employment Insurance Act (family leave) be taken up on November 4, 2010 and November 16, 2010.
3. Motion of Michael Savage: That the HUMA Committee study the impact of cancelling the long form census, particularly as it relates to planning and tracking of vital social trends related to economic security, labour markets and social program development for those Canadians living and on the cusp of living in poverty, and that this Committee report back to the House its conclusion and findings, be taken up on November 16, 2010 and November 18, 2010.
4. That the remainder Business of the Committee be conducted in the following order:
- Motion of Maurice Vellacott - That the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development, and the Status of Persons with Disabilities examine the current federal support measures that are available to adoptive parents and their adoptive children, recognizing and respecting provincial and territorial jurisdictions in this regard, and following completion of its study, report back to the House with its findings.
- followed by the motion of Yves Lessard - That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities study the procedures and practices for appealing a decision by the Employment Insurance Board of Referees, and that it report its findings and recommendations to the House.
- and then, the motion of Tony Martin - That this Committee, following its study on adoption issues, conduct a major study on a topic specific to barriers that impede the quality of life of persons with disabilities, and/or their participation in a labour market and economy, with a commitment to providing solutions with a high probability of success.
These studies will be conducted without any limitation in terms of number of meetings, provided that time will be made for the study of any Goverment or Private Member's Bill referred to the Committee, and the study under consideration at that time shall be suspended for the duration of the study of the Bill referred to the Committee.
