The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 4:08 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

From the Senate of Canada: Honourable Jean-Robert Gauthier.

Members of the Committee present: Marlene Jennings and John Williams.

Acting Members present: Rodney Cuzner for Robert Bertrand; Paul Szabo for Gerry Byrne; Jeannot Castonguay for Mac Harb.

Associate Members present: Diane Ablonczy, Ken Epp, Art Hanger, Bob Mills and Werner Schmidt.

Other Members present: Peter Adams and Hon. Rey Pagtakhan, Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General. As an Individual: Mr. Richard Bélisle (Québec).

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(1), Presentation by Members of Parliament relating to the End of Term of the Auditor General of Canada.

The Honourable Jean-Robert Gauthier made a presentation as former Chair of the Committee (1991-1993).

Richard Bélisle made a presentation as former Member of Parliament and Chair of the Committee (1994-1995).

The Chair read a letter on behalf of Mr. Michel Guimond as former Chair of the Committee (1996-1997).

Werner Schmidt made a presentation.
