On Monday, May 4, 2026, the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities adopted the following motion:
That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and the motion adopted by the committee on Thursday, March 23, 2026, the committee undertake a study on homelessness in Canada, including a review of the Reaching Home program, with a view to examining its effectiveness and identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement in federal approaches to addressing homelessness; that the study consider key factors contributing to homelessness, including housing affordability and the need for supportive housing, substance abuse, access to treatment and recovery services, and available supports; that the committee invite the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, community organizations, and other relevant stakeholders; that the committee hold a minimum of four meetings; that the committee report its findings and recommendations to the House; and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the report.
