Meeting No. 27

The Standing Committee on National Defence met in camera at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Rick Casson, Cheryl Gallant, James Lunney, Anthony Rota and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Members present: Hon. Wayne Easter for John Cannis, Hon. Wayne Easter for Hon. Bryon Wilfert, Pierre Lemieux for Steven Blaney, Irene Mathyssen for Dawn Black, Rob Merrifield for Laurie Hawn, Pauline Picard for Robert Bouchard and Roger Valley for John Cannis.

Other Members present: Paul Dewar.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

At 4:59 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:02 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of health services provided to Canadian Forces personnel with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder.

Wayne Easter moved, — That the following be reported to the House: As part of its study of Health services provided to Canadian Forces personnel with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder, the Standing Committee on National Defence recommends that the Auditor General immediately conduct a thorough review of all Canadian Forces Bases to evaluate the available services, treatments and care for mental health injuries provided by the Department of National Defence.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 4.

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
