Government Orders

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Nicholson (Minister of Justice), seconded by Mr. Baird (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), — That Bill C-17, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (investigative hearing and recognizance with conditions), be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security.

The debate continued.

The question was put on the motion and, pursuant to Standing Order 45, the recorded division was deferred until Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the expiry of the time provided for Government Orders.


The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration of Bill C-35, An Act to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Mr. Kenney (Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism), seconded by Mrs. Yelich (Minister of State (Western Economic Diversification)), moved, — That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration.

By unanimous consent, it was ordered, — That, notwithstanding any Standing Order or usual practice of the House, during the debate tonight on the motion to concur in the Second Report of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (recommendation not to proceed further with Bill C-391, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Firearms Act (repeal of long-gun registry)), the Speaker shall not receive any quorum calls, dilatory motions, amendments or requests for unanimous consent; at the expiry of the time provided for the debate, or when no Member rises to speak, all questions necessary to dispose of the motion be deemed put and a recorded division be deemed requested.

Pursuant to Standing Order 93(1), the Order was dropped to the bottom of the order of precedence on the Order Paper.
