Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Cannon (Minister of Foreign Affairs), seconded by Mr. Kent (Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas)), Bill C-26, An Act to amend the International Boundary Waters Treaty Act and the International River Improvements Act, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Recommendation

Her Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled “An Act to amend the International Boundary Waters Treaty Act and the International River Improvements Act”.

Mrs. McLeod (Kamloops—Thompson—Cariboo), seconded by Mrs. Davidson (Sarnia—Lambton), moved, — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should encourage and assist provincial and territorial governments, the medical community and other groups to lessen the burden on Canada's health care system through: (a) an increased adoption of technological developments; (b) a better recognition of the changing roles of health care professionals and the needs of Canadians; and (c) a greater focus on strategies for healthy living and injury prevention. (Private Members' Business M-513)

Debate arose thereon.
