Pursuant to Standing Order 106(1), the committee met for the purpose of electing a chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the clerk of the committee presided over the election of a chair.

On motion of James Maloney, it was agreed, — That MP Iqra Khalid be elected Chair of the committee.

At 5:24 p.m., Iqra Khalid took the Chair.

Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the committee commenced consideration of Bill C-238, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (restitution orders).

MP Viviane Lapointe made a statement and answered questions.

Joanna Wells and Aleksander Godlewski answered questions.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

That the proposed budget in the amount of $4,000, for the study of Bill C-238, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (restitution orders), be adopted

At 6:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
