Pursuant to the order of reference of Thursday, February 26, 2026, the committee commenced consideration of Bill S-228, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sterilization procedures).

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $39,900, for the study of Bill S-228, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sterilization procedures), be adopted.

Yvonne Boyer made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:01 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 12:07 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Margot Burnell, Jennifer Leason, Marjolaine Étienne, Don Wilson, Harmony Redsky, Silvia Mckay and Shelby Ponace made statements and answered questions.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That proposed witnesses for the study of Bill S-2, An Act to amend the Indian Act (new registration entitlements), be submitted to the clerk by noon on Friday, March 27, 2026.

At 1:16 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
