Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the committee proceeded to a briefing with the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction.

Alexander Caudarella, Neil Arao, Scott Elliott, Susan Russell-Csanyi and Louis Hugo Francescutti made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Maxime Blanchette-Joncas moved, — That, given the Order in Council appointments referred to the Committee on March 9, 2026, and March 26, 2026 for the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada and the President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, respectively; the committee invite:

• Harpreet Singh, President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency; and

• Joss Reimer, Chief Public Health Officer of Canada;

to appear for one hour each to discuss their work within two weeks following the adoption of this motion, and that the committee use additional resources if necessary to meet the deadline.

And that the committee request the Minister of Health to provide, within five days following the adoption of this motion, the complete list of members of the Task Force on the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Sector.

At 5:41 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 5:44 p.m., the meeting resumed.

The debate resumed on the motion of Maxime Blanchette-Joncas.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

On motion of Maggie Chi, it was agreed, — That the committee do now adjourn.

At 5:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
