Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee commenced its study of subject matter of Supplementary Estimates (B), 2025-26: Vote 1b under Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Vote 5b under Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Votes 1b and 10b under Department of Health and Votes 1b and 10b under Public Health Agency of Canada, referred to the Committee on Friday, November 7, 2025.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $500, for the study of Subject Matter of Supplementary Estimates (B), 2025-26: Vote 1b under Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Vote 5b under Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Votes 1b and 10b under Department of Health and Votes 1b and 10b under Public Health Agency of Canada, be adopted.

Greg Orencsak, Nancy Hamzawi, Robert Ianiro and Jeff Moore made statements and, with Kendal Weber and Natasha Crowcroft, answered questions.

At 11:16 a.m., Dan Mazier took the Chair.

On motion of Doug Eyolfson, it was agreed, — That the committee invite the Minister of Health and the department officials to testify before the committee, by February 6, 2026.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 12:13 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, September 23, 2023, the committee resumed its study of antimicrobial resistance.

Nancy Hamzawi and Charu Kaushic made statements and, with Stephen Bent and Dhurata Ikonomi, answered questions.

Motion

Burton Bailey moved, — That the committee invite the Public Health Agency of Canada to testify on the recently reported $20 million loss of supplies from the national emergency stockpile, with one hour in public and one hour in camera, by February 10, 2026.

At 1:10 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 1:14 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Debate resumed on the motion of Burton Bailey.
