Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the clerk of the committee presided over the election of a chair.

On motion of Marie-Gabrielle Ménard, it was agreed, — That Dominique Vien be elected Chair of the committee in absentia.

At 3:33 p.m., Iqra Khalid took the Chair.

At 3:34 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 3:36 p.m., the meeting resumed.

It was agreed, — That the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada be invited to appear before the committee, for one hour, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, on the subject of Bill C-16, An Act to amend certain Acts in relation to criminal and correctional matters (child protection, gender-based violence, delays and other measures).

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the committee resumed its study of abuse and financial vulnerability of senior women.

Lise Courteau, Meseret Haileyesus and Vishal Khanna made statements and, with Hélène Cornellier, answered questions.

At 4:32 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 4:36 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Jehan Chaudry, Gisèle Tassé-Goodman and Talia Bronstein made statements and answered questions.

At 5:33 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
