Minutes of Proceedings
James Bezan made a statement and answered questions.
At 4:26 p.m., the meeting was suspended.
At 4:33 p.m., the meeting resumed in camera.
It was agreed, — Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Thursday, April 30, 2026, the committee commenced its study of human rights situation in Sudan.
It was agreed, — That the draft report be adopted.
It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "A War on Civilians: Addressing the Human Toll of the Conflict in Sudan".
It was agreed, — That the Chair, clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.
It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the report.
ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.
It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $9,650, the study of Bill C-219, An Act to amend the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act, the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act (Sergei Magnitsky Law), the Special Economic Measures Act and the Broadcasting Act subject matter of clauses 460 to 462 (division 27) of Bill C-15, an Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on November 4, 2025, be adopted.
It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $500, for the study of Main Estimates 2026-27, be adopted.
It was agreed, — That the committee hold an informal meeting with the Estonia–Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., jointly with the Standing Committee on National Defence; and that the committee authorize the defraying of hospitality expenses associated with this meeting, to be shared equally with the Standing Committee on National Defence.
At 4:59 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
