Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, April 27, 2026, the committee commenced its study of provincial distribution of asylum seekers in Canada.

On motion of Sameer Zuberi, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $28,250, for the study of provincial distribution of asylum seekers in Canada, be adopted.

On motion of Peter Fragiskatos, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $55,000, for the study of attracting and empowering global talent to strengthen Canada’s economy, be adopted.

Michael Barutciski, Anita Stellinga and Steve Jacques made statements and answered questions.

At 12:02 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 12:10 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Pierre Fortin, Héléna Roulet, Olive Mukamana and David Clinton made statements and answered questions.

At 12:40 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the committee continue to sit.

At 12:59 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
