The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has issued a decision to increase from 5% to 15% the contribution requirement of some online streaming firms such as Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime, that Vicky Eatrides, chairperson and chief executive officer of the CRTC, appear at the committee for two hours to explain the decision.

And given that Cabinet has ultimate authority over such decisions, the minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and minister responsible for Official Languages, appear at the committee for two hours to probe how Canada’s interest will be protected considering the profound impact this decision will have on CUSMA negotiations.

Debate arose thereon.

RULING BY THE CHAIR

The Chair ruled the proposed motion inadmissible because it is moved without the notice of 48 hours required before a member may move a substantive motion and it does not deal directly with the matter before the Committee at this time, as stated in the routine motions adopted by the committee on Monday, June 16, 2025.
