Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(i) and the motion adopted by the committee on Thursday, May 23, 2024, the committee resumed its study of innovation, science, and research in recycling plastics.

Mohammad Arjmand, Allen Langdon and Charles David Mathieu-Poulin made statements and answered questions.

At 4:43 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 4:49 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Anthony Merante and Mathieu Laneuville made statements and, with Céline Vaneeckhaute, answered questions.

Motion

Corey Tochor moved, — That, Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(i), the committee invite the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry to appear before the committee for no less than two hours, within 14 days of the adoption of this motion, in relation to his priorities for the return of Parliament and his mandate.

Debate arose thereon.

At 5:06 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 5:06 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Motion

Lena Metlege Diab moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Richard Cannings, Shaun Chen, Lena Metlege Diab, Helena Jaczek, Mike Kelloway, Lloyd Longfield — 6;

NAYS: Maxime Blanchette-Joncas, Robert Kitchen, Greg McLean, Corey Tochor, Arnold Viersen — 5.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the committee’s study of the mission, mandate, role, structure and financing of the new capstone research funding organization announced in budget 2024, members be invited to submit their initial list of proposed witnesses to the clerk no later than Friday, September 27, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. (ET).

At 5:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
