Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2020-21: Vote 1 under Administrative Tribunals Support Service of Canada, Vote 1 under Canadian Human Rights Commission, Vote 1 under Courts Administration Service, Votes 1 and 5 under Department of Justice, Votes 1 and 5 under Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs, Vote 1 under Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and Vote 1 under Registrar of the Supreme Court of Canada, referred to the committee on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2020-21: Vote 1b under Canadian Human Rights Commission, Vote 1b under Courts Administration Service, Vote 1b under Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and Vote 1b under Registrar of the Supreme Court of Canada, referred to the committee on Thursday, October 22, 2020.

The Chair called Vote 1b under Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and Vote 1 under Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs.

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

Motion

Arif Virani moved, — That the committee vote today on the Main Estimates 2020-21, as well as the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2020-21.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, as part of its study of Bill C-7, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (medical assistance in dying), the Committee hold four meetings on the matter, with four witnesses/organizations per hour; that the parties submit their priority list of witnesses to the clerk as soon as possible, the Liberal and Conservative parties each being allowed to put forward 12 names and the Bloc Québécois and the New Democratic Party each being allowed to put forward four names.

Motion

Randall Garrison moved, — That, for the first meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2020, the Committee invite the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Health and the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion to appear in the first hour of the meeting.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Michael Cooper, Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Randall Garrison, Mike Kelloway, Chris Lewis, James Maloney, Rob Moore, Ramesh Sangha, Arif Virani, Sameer Zuberi — 10;

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the routine motion adopted on Thursday, October 15, 2020, the time given for opening statements for ministers scheduled to appear at the meeting on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, be four minutes.

At 1:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
