Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, October 19, 2020, the committee resumed its study of the implementation of Mi’kmaq Treaty Fishing Rights to support a moderate livelihood.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

Motion

John Williamson moved, — That the committee request the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard to appear for no fewer than two hours as a witness for the committee’s current study of the "Implementation of Mi’kmaq Treaty Fishing Rights to Support a Moderate Livelihood"; that the committee suspend future meetings of its current study until the Minister appears as requested, with the departmental officials requested.

Debate arose thereon.

At 5:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:19 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Amendment

Marilène Gill moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “"Implementation of Mi'kmaq Treaty Fishing Rights to Support a Moderate Livelihood";" the following: "that the Minister appear no later than Friday, November 13, 2020”.

Debate arose thereon.

Subamendment

Gord Johns moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the word “13” with the word “20”.

After debate, the question was put on the subamendment of Gord Johns and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

Amendment

Gord Johns moved, — That the motion be amended by deleting the words "that the committee suspend future meetings of its current study until the Minister appears, as requested, with the department officials requested".
