THE HOUSE OF COMMONS STANDING COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT INVITES BRIEFS FOR ITS STUDY OF BILL C-12

Ottawa, May 6, 2021 -

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development invites the public to submit briefs for the Committee’s upcoming study of Bill C-12, An Act respecting transparency and accountability in Canada’s efforts to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050.

On 4 May 2021, the House of Commons adopted Bill C-12 at second reading and referred it to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development. The Committee will study the bill and decide on possible amendments.

The Committee is interested in receiving written submissions from Canadians as part of its study. These submissions will be translated, circulated to Committee members and posted on the Committee’s website.

The Committee asks interested individuals and groups to submit briefs related to Bill C-12 no later than Monday, May 17, 2021.

The Committee recommends that submissions be no more than 10 pages long and, as applicable, suggest changes or amendments to improve Bill C-12. They should be sent to: ENVI@parl.gc.ca.

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development consists of 12 MPs. It is chaired by Francis Scarpaleggia (Lac-Saint-Louis). The Vice-Chairs are Dan Albas (Central Okanagan—Similkameen—Nicola) and Monique Pauzé (Repentigny). The other members are Yvan Baker (Etobicoke Centre), Chris Bittle (St. Catharines), Laurel Collins (Victoria), Matt Jeneroux (Edmonton Riverbend), Lloyd Longfield (Guelph), Cathy McLeod (Kamloops—Thompson—Cariboo), Brad Redekopp (Saskatoon West), Raj Saini (Kitchener Centre), and Ya’ara Saks (York Centre).
