Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the committee commenced its study of the Good Friday Accord.

It was agreed, — That the committee recognize 1) the long-standing cultural, familial, political and economic connections between Canada and the people of both the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom, 2) the important role played by Canada in negotiating the Good Friday Agreement and in ensuring the commitments laid out in the treaty were implemented, 3) that the decision by the United Kingdom to leave the European Union could affect the Good Friday Agreement and the provisions in it regarding the border between the Republic of Ireland and the UK, therefor, that the committee calls on the Government of Canada to ensure that any post-Brexit trade deal between Canada and the United Kingdom be consistent with the principles of the Good Friday Agreemen; that the committee report this motion to the House; and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the report.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Friday, October 23, 2020, the committee resumed its study of Canada’s international trade after COVID-19: changes, federal supports for exporters and trade agreement priorities.

Patrick Watson, Brian Kingston, Douglas Kennedy and Marcel Groleau made statements and answered questions.

At 2:54 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
