Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the subcommittee on Wednesday, July 9, 2020, the subcommittee resumed its study of the Human rights situation of the Uyghurs

William Browder, Olga V. Alexeeva, Azeezah Kanji and Errol P. Mendes made statements and answered questions.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That due to technical difficulties, William Browder be allowed to continue his appearance without simultaneous interpretation.

At 12:58 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:15 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Omerbek Ali and Gulbahar Jelilova made statements and answered questions.

At 2:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:02 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Amy Lehr, Elise Anderson and Guy Saint-Jacques made statements and answered questions.

At 5:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:40 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 6,275, for the study of the human rights situation of the Uyghurs, be adopted.

The committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a draft report.

It was agreed, — That the subcommittee issue a news release regarding the human rights situation of the Uyghurs.

It was agreed, — That the news release be circulated to the Chairs of other parliamentary human rights committees worldwide.

It was agreed, — That the clerk make the necessary arrangements for a press conference to be held during the week of August 10, 2020; and that the Subcommittee respect the public health guidelines in regards to the Pandemic by having it either in Ottawa, virtually, or a hybrid of the two.

At 6:35 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
