Pursuant to the order of reference of Monday, January 27, 2020, and the motion adopted by the committee on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, the committee resumed a briefing on the Canadian response to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

Don Davies raised a point of order regarding a possible question of privilege related to the appearance of Dr. Amir Attaran on April 14, 2020.

Debate arose thereon.

The Chair reserved his decision.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 5:53 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

Motion

Don Davies moved, — That the committee enquire into reports that a witness who has appeared to give testimony, Dr. Amir Attaran, may have been threatened, punished, intimidated or otherwise harmed by the Public Health Agency of Canada or the federal government in some capacity, because of testimony he has provided to the committee, for the purpose of determining if a prima facie breach of my privilege as a member of the committee and House may have occurred as a result, and, if so, to cause a report to be written with such findings and delivered to the Speaker of the House for his determination.

The Chair reserved his decision regarding the procedural admissibility of the proposed motion.

Sonia Sidhu raised a point of order regarding unparliamentary language in the committee meeting.

RULING BY THE CHAIR

The Chair ruled that all meeting participants are required to follow the usual rules of order and decorum.

At 7:18 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
