Minutes of Proceedings
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs be granted a travel budget of $94,254.40 to travel to Victoria, British Columbia, Calgary, Alberta, Beauval, Saskatchewan, Hamilton, Six Nations Indian Reserve No. 40 and Toronto, Ontario, and Halifax, Millbrook First Nation (Truro) and Indian Brook First Nation, Nova Scotia, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its study on Needs and Issues Specific to Indigenous Veterans.
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food be granted a travel budget of $67,072.60 to travel to Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Guelph, Ontario, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Vancouver, British Columbia, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its study on Advancements of Technology and Research in the Agriculture Industry that Can Support Canadian Exports.
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on International Trade be granted a travel budget of $47,911.09 to travel to Washington, D.C., United States of America, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its study on Priorities of Canadian Stakeholders Having an Interest in Bilateral and Trilateral Trade in North America, Between Canada, United States and Mexico.
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration be granted a travel budget of $151,832.43 to travel to Kampala, Bundibugyo and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Refugee and Settlement Camps, Uganda, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi and the UNHCR Refugee and Settlement Camps, Kenya, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its study on Migration Challenges and Opportunities for Canada in the 21st Century.
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development be granted a travel budget of $215,895.74 to travel to Tokyo, Japan, Seoul, South Korea, and Manila, Philippines, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its study on Canada's Engagement in Asia.
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Finance be granted a travel budget of $140,685.13 to travel to Toronto, Ontario, London, United Kingdom, and Washington, D.C., and New York, New York, United States of America, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its Statutory Review of the Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act.
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans be granted a travel budget of $91,797.60 to travel to St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Magdalen Islands, Quebec, Charlottetown and Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Miramichi, New Brunswick, and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its study on the Current State of Department of Fisheries and Oceans' Small Craft Harbours.
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology be granted a travel budget of $113,170.30 to travel to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Montréal, Quebec, Toronto, Ontario, Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Vancouver, British Columbia, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its Statutory Review of the Copyright Act.
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on National Defence be granted a travel budget of $4,059.45 to travel to Petawawa, Ontario, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its study on Canada’s Involvement in NATO.
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security be granted a travel budget of $80,747.60 to travel to Québec and Donnacona, Quebec, Saskatoon, Duck Lake and Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, and Medicine Hat, Mâskwâcîs and Edmonton, Alberta, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its study on Indigenous People in the Correctional System.
It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities be granted a travel budget of $56,281.52 to travel to Vancouver, British Columbia, and Seattle, Washington, United States of America, in the Spring 2018, in relation to its study on the Canadian Transportation and Logistics Strategy.
The Clerk gave a presentation of the financial status of the global envelope for committee activities.
It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee, through a letter sent by its Chair, invite all Committee Chairs to ask their committee to determine which of their studies may require committee travel during the period from July to December 2018;
that committees interested in travelling be invited to prepare a rationale for why such travel would be required and be requested to provide a high-level estimate of related travel costs;
that this information be provided to the Subcommittee, via its Clerk, no later than May 4, 2018; and
that budgets that may stem from those travel proposals be submitted to the Subcommittee, via its Clerk, no later than June 1, 2018.
At 1:42 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
