HOUSE COMMITTEE ON NATIONAL DEFENCE PRESENTS A REPORT ON NORAD AND AERIAL READINESS
Ottawa, September 19, 2016 -
Today, the House of Commons Standing Committee on National Defence (NDDN) presented its second report entitled Canada and the Defence of North America: NORAD and Aerial Readiness. The report contains thirteen (13) recommendations on various issues, including Royal Canadian Air Force assets, missile defence, the Arctic, and cyber security
In February 2016, the Committee undertook a study of the Defence of North America with an initial focus on the Canadian NORAD Region aerial readiness.
During the course of the study, the Committee held seven (7) meetings to hear testimony from officials from the Department of National Defence, the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Public Services and Procurement Canada, as well as several individuals. The Committee also traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States, in early May 2016 to visit the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) headquarters and meet with Canadian and American NORAD and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) officials.
