Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 23, 2017, the Committee resumed its study of Canada’s involvement in NATO.

Ainars Latkovskis made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:12 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:17 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Fourth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which reads as follows, be concurred in:

Your Subcommittee met on Monday, February 12, 2018, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1- That, with respect to the NATO study, no more than seven meetings with witnesses be held on the following subjects with hearings being complete no later than Thursday March 29, 2018:

1- Women, Peace and Security

2- Military

3- Economy

4- Emerging Research and development

5- Emerging Security Challenges

2- That, with respect to the peacekeeping study, at least six meetings be held, with hearings to begin prior to the Summer break;

3- That the Committee study the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2017-18, as referred to the Committee on Monday, February 12, 2018, and invite the Minister to appear in a televised session;

4- That the Committee not proceed with consideration of the Order in Council appointments, as recently referred to the Committee;

5- That the Committee not proceed with the following motion of Mr. Bezan:

That the Committee conduct a study of no less than three meetings, to consider the government’s purchase of used F-18 Hornets as well as spare parts from the Royal Australian Air Force and the process of integrating these aircraft into the Royal Canadian Air Force; that this study be completed and findings of which be reported back to the House within 60 calendar days from the adoption of this motion; and that meetings regarding this study be televised.

6-That the hearing with the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, 2018 be an in camera meeting.
