Minutes of Proceedings
James Bezan moved, — That, given the recent developments in North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities, the committee immediately convene meeting(s) with government officials and defence experts to study Canada’s current threat assessment of North Korea and Canada’s abilities to defend itself and our allies in the event of an attack by North Korea on the North American continent using intercontinental ballistic missiles, conventional weapons and/or non-conventional weapons of mass destruction.
Debate arose thereon.
Mark Gerretsen moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “immediately convene meeting(s) ” with the words “conduct a public hearing before Parliament resumes”.
After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Mark Gerretsen and it was agreed to.
Mark Gerretsen moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “defence experts” with the words “subject matter experts”.
After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Mark Gerretsen and it was agreed to.
Mark Gerretsen moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “to study ” with the words “to further understand ”.
After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Mark Gerretsen and it was agreed to.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:
That, given the recent developments in North Korea`s intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities, the committee conduct a public hearing before Parliament resumes with government officials and subject matter experts to further understand Canada`s current threat assessment of North Korea and Canada`s abilities to defend itself and our allies in the event of an attack by North Korea on the North American continent using intercontinental ballistic missiles, conventional weapons and/or non-conventional weapons of mass destruction.
At 1:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 1:29 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.
At 1:39 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
