NEWS RELEASE

The launch of Phase II of the Statutory Review of the Copyright Act

Ottawa, October 18, 2018 -

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology (the Committee) has finished Phase I of its statutory review of the Copyright Act (the Act) and will now begin Phase II of the review.

In Phase III of the review, which will begin in late November, lawyers and legal scholars will be invited to testify before the Committee. If you would like to testify, you may send a request to appear before November 10th, 2018 and explain in 100 words what you would like to discuss during your appearance.

The Committee may not be able to hear all stakeholders wishing to appear. We therefore encourage all individuals and organizations interested in the review of the Act to submit a brief.

The Committee will accept briefs until December 10th, 2018. Briefs received after this date will not be considered.

Briefs must not exceed 2,000 words. They can be submitted to the Committee by using the button provided for this purpose. Once translated, briefs will be made available to the members of the Committee and will be posted on the Committee website.

For more information on how to prepare a submission, please consult the Guide for Submitting Briefs to House of Commons Committees.

For more information on the review of the Act, please consult the study’s website.
