STANDING COMMITTEE ON FISHERIES AND OCEANS TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARINGS IN NEW BRUNSWICK FOR ITS STUDY OF THE WILD ATLANTIC SALMON

Ottawa, September 23, 2016 -

Members of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans (“the Committee”) will hold public hearings September 26, 2016 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, at the:

Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, Fort Williams Salon B, 115 Cavendish Square

Committee Chair Mr. Scott Simms (Coast of Bays — Central — Notre Dame) will be joined by Mr. Pat Finnigan (Miramichi — Grand Lake), Mr. Ken McDonald (Avalon), Mr. Mel Arnold (North Okanagan — Shuswap), Mr. Todd Doherty (Cariboo — Prince George) and Mr. Gord Johns (Courtenay — Alberni).

In Newfoundland and Labrador, the Committee will hold public hearings to better understand the potential rebuilding of the northern cod stock and its impacts on other fish species in the region. The Committee will also visit Port de Grave on September 27 and Fogo Island on September 28.

As part of its study on the conservation, restoration and socio-economic issues related to the wild Atlantic salmon, the Committee will hold public hearings September 29, 2016 in Miramichi, New Brunswick, at the:

Kinsmen Centre, Beaverbrook Kin Centre, 100 Newcastle Blvd.
